The First Step Towards Net Zero Starts with a Plan

The step towards net zero, Carbon Reduction Plan:

At Nero Energy, we believe credibility matters.

Every day, we help organisations reduce energy consumption, improve building performance and work towards their sustainability goals. It would be difficult to ask our clients to take meaningful action if we were not prepared to do the same ourselves.

That is why we have published our own Carbon Reduction Plan.

It is more than a compliance document. It is a public commitment that demonstrates how we measure our emissions, where our biggest challenges lie and, most importantly, what we are doing to reduce them.

Leading by example

Our first carbon assessment established a baseline footprint of 47.1 tCO₂e for the 2025/26 financial year, equivalent to 5.2 tonnes of CO₂e per employee. The assessment follows the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Standard and uses the latest UK Government emissions conversion factors.

Rather than treating this as a reporting exercise, we see it as the starting point for continual improvement.

We have committed to:
Publishing these targets keeps us accountable while giving our clients confidence that we understand the practical realities of carbon reduction.

Understanding where emissions come from

One of the biggest lessons from producing our Carbon Reduction Plan is that the largest emissions are not always where businesses expect them to be.

For Nero Energy, over 80% of our footprint sits within Scope 3 emissions. Purchased goods and services alone account for the majority of our total emissions, while business travel, commuting and homeworking also contribute.
This reflects what we see across many organisations.

Businesses often focus on reducing electricity or gas consumption, which is important, but achieving meaningful carbon reductions requires a much broader understanding of the entire organisation.

Until you measure your emissions properly, you cannot effectively prioritise where to invest your time or budget.

Carbon Reduction Plan: The First Step to Net Zero

Carbon reduction is about making better business decisions

Many organisations still see carbon reporting as a compliance exercise.

In reality, it is a business improvement exercise.

When businesses understand their emissions, they also gain valuable insight into energy efficiency, operational costs, procurement decisions and long-term resilience.

Carbon reduction can help organisations:
The businesses making progress today are treating carbon reduction as part of their overall business strategy, not simply an environmental initiative.

How Nero Energy helps clients

Producing our own Carbon Reduction Plan has reinforced something we already knew.

That is where we add value.

Our team combines technical engineering expertise with practical commercial advice to help organisations understand their current position, identify opportunities and develop realistic plans that achieve measurable results.
We focus on actions that make sense financially as well as environmentally.
